Terms and conditions

1. What KampongBuy is

KampongBuy is a venue. We let individuals pool demand into a group buy (a “Kampong”) and let businesses compete for that order through a tender.

We organise the process — the listing, the bidding, the member vote — and nothing more. We are not a buyer, not a seller, not a broker, and not an agent for either side. We do not represent your interests against the other party, because we represent neither of you.

2. No money passes through us

We take no payment, hold no funds, run no escrow and charge no commission on any transaction. Payment is arranged directly between the individual and the business, on whatever terms they agree.

It follows that we cannot refund you, cannot reverse a payment, and cannot recover money on your behalf. If a payment goes wrong, it is between you and the other party.

3. The contract is between you and the other party

When a Kampong awards a tender, any resulting contract is formed between the members of that Kampong and the winning business. KampongBuy is not a party to it.

Delivery, installation, quality, timeliness, warranty, returns and after-sales service are the responsibility of the parties to that contract. Disputes are for those parties to resolve between themselves.

4. What we do and do not verify

We verify that a mobile number is reachable, and we ask businesses for a UEN at registration. That is the extent of it.

We do not inspect goods, audit accounts, confirm licences or insurance, verify that a business can do what it claims, or check that a stated retail price was ever charged. Ratings and reviews are written by users and are their opinions, not ours.

Do your own checks before you commit. Nothing on this platform is a recommendation or an endorsement by us.

5. Accounts

Individual and business accounts are separate and cannot be interchanged. A business account may not pledge into a group buy, and an individual account may not bid on a tender. This exists so that a seller cannot see and shape demand it stands to profit from.

One account per person or per company. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself.

6. Pledges, bids and awards

A pledge is free to withdraw while bidding is open. Once bidding closes, businesses have priced against your number, and your pledge is treated as part of the order the winning bid was calculated on.

A bid is an offer to supply on the terms stated in it. Businesses are expected to honour a bid if their Kampong awards it.

The Kampong chooses the winner by member vote and the organiser confirms it. The lowest price does not have to win, and no business is entitled to be awarded a tender.

Repeatedly failing to complete what you pledged, or to honour a bid you won, affects your record on the platform and may end your access to it.

7. Content you post

You keep ownership of what you upload — photos, listings, messages, reviews — and you give us permission to display it on the platform for that purpose.

Only post what you have the right to post. Do not post anything unlawful, misleading, or that infringes someone else's rights. We may remove content and suspend accounts, and the organiser of a listing may remove photos on it.

Reviews must describe a real dealing. Do not write or solicit fake ones.

8. Messaging

Individuals may open a conversation with a business. Businesses may reply but may not send unsolicited messages.

Use messaging for the deal at hand. Do not use it to send marketing, to harass anyone, or to move a transaction off-platform in order to evade these terms.

9. Liability

The platform is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any Kampong will reach its target or attract a bid.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising out of a transaction between users — including goods not delivered, work done badly, money not paid, or a deal that falls through.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Changes and governing law

We may change these terms; material changes will be notified in the platform. Continuing to use it after a change means you accept the revised terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction.
