How KampongBuy works

For individuals
What is a Kampong?
A group buy. You post what your neighbourhood wants — say, 30 basin taps — and verified suppliers submit competing bids. Everyone who joins pledges how many units they want, and the group votes on which bid wins.
What's the difference between Blind and Transparent bidding?
Transparent lets suppliers see the leading price and undercut it, which tends to push the price down fast. Blind hides every bid from other suppliers, so each one has to submit their genuinely best offer up front instead of racing a number they can see.
Can I change my mind after I pledge?
Yes, freely — right up until bidding closes. After that, suppliers have priced against the total pledged, so your pledge becomes part of the order the winning bid was calculated on.
Who picks the winning bid?
The Kampong's own members, by vote, once bidding closes. The organiser confirms the result. The lowest price doesn't automatically win — members weigh price against lead time, fulfilment and the supplier's reviews.
What's a bulk offer, and how is it different from a Kampong?
A bulk offer is posted by one specific supplier, not requested by households. The supplier sets a price ladder that steps down as more people claim a spot — so claiming into an offer that's short of its next tier is what unlocks the better price for everyone already in.
Do I pay KampongBuy anything?
No. We take no payment, hold no funds, and charge no commission. You arrange payment and delivery directly with the supplier once a tender is awarded or an offer is claimed.
Why do I need to verify my email or mobile?
So a pledge means something. Without it, the "units pledged" figure a supplier prices against would include people who can't actually be reached — which is exactly what verification exists to rule out.
Where do I see everything I've pledged, joined, or claimed?
Your activity page — /my — tracks current and past tenders you've posted, Kampongs you've joined, and bulk offers you've claimed, all in one place.
For suppliers
How do I find tenders to bid on?
Browse open tenders, or wait for a direct invite from an organiser if they've asked you by name.
What's the difference between bidding and posting a bulk offer?
A bid answers demand a household already posted — you're competing against other suppliers for one specific order. A bulk offer is demand you create yourself: you set the price ladder and let households pool into it on your terms.
Why do you ask for a UEN or business registration number?
It's checked at signup so a bulk-buying platform isn't wide open to anyone claiming to be a business. It doesn't mean we've audited your company beyond that — see our Terms for exactly what we do and don't verify.
When can I collect reviews?
Only after a tender is marked completed. A review is about a real, finished dealing, not a promise — that's also why it can only be left by someone from a Kampong you actually delivered to.
Can I message a household directly?
Only in reply. An individual can start a conversation with your business; you can't cold-message a household — that would turn the platform into a marketing channel, which is the one thing it's built not to be.
Something wrong with a specific order or a specific supplier? That’s a matter between you and them — see our Terms for why, and use in-app messaging to sort it out directly.
